What is Double Cleansing and Why is it Important?

We have been catching this famous quote since childhood that Good things come to those who wait. Let me tell you something more exciting “Good skin comes to those who remove their makeup before bed” isn’t it obvious that dirt and pollution of anything lead to the destruction of that specific thing? The same is the case with your skin.

If you won’t take care of its hygiene it will result in acne breakouts, dryness, oiliness, dehydration, and maybe some severe skin diseases. So, to follow the hygiene of our skin the first and the most important step is always cleansing. Cleansing in one step is effective, but double cleansing is something magical that you dream of, most especially if you are someone who wears makeup regularly.

Double Cleansing

Welcome your toxin-free skin with this technique of double-cleansing.

Double cleansing is the process of cleaning and washing your skin in two steps with two different cleansers. The primary function of double cleansing is a deep cleansing of your skin to make sure that there is no pollutant, dirt, toxin left on your skin.

Although there are many kinds of cleansers, the most popular types of cleansers are water-based cleanser and an oil-based cleanser. An oil-based cleanser is not used daily by most people because it is mostly used to remove makeup and oily impurities. A regular water-based cleanser is used mostly in our daily routine because of its light consistency and effects.

An oil-based cleanser removes the layer of oil-based impurities like your makeup, SPF, sebum, and pollutants. While water-based cleanser removes the toxins, sweat, dead skin cells, and any other dirt present in your pores.

  • The First step is to remove the oily layer:

Apply an oil-based cleanser on your dry face rather than on a wet face. Then massage it in a circular and upward motion for a few seconds. Then wash it off.

  • The Second step is to remove the remaining impurities:

Apply a water-based cleanser on your wet skin and massage it well for a few seconds. Then rinse it off.

The second step is important for making your skin ready to absorb skincare products by cleaning your clogged pores.

Double cleansing is good for both dry and oily skin, but more important for people who have oily skin or for the people who wear makeup daily. So that at the end of the day they need to clean their skin to welcome new products on their skin.

From protecting the harsh sun rays, we use sunscreens in the morning and to modify our look we apply some cosmetics. These two things make us look good and keep our skin healthy, but if not removed from our skin properly at the end of the day, then the results will be very disappointing.

Skin is one of the most sensitive organs of our body with a huge responsibility of protecting our bodies from environmental hazards. But we are very less conscious of its hygiene. We prefer to put on layers of makeup to make our skin look prettier, but we do not focus on its health. Healthy skin should be our foremost priority. Because if it will be healthy you will need less makeup automatically. As we say precaution is better than treatment. So yes, taking care of the skin should always be your priority after eating healthy food of course.  If we talk about skincare, cleansing is its first step because if your skin will not be properly cleansed, then applying different day or night creams will not affect it. So, prepare your skin first to absorb the skincare products.

Cleansing is an essential part of your skincare routine because:

  • Cleans clogged pores.
  • Removes dead skin.
  • Removes makeup layer.
  • Give your skin a fresh and healthy look.
  • Give an instant glow.
  • Tightens the skin.
  • Removes dirt and excess oil.

After spending a day out with a hectic routine, a layer of dirt, pollutants, sebum, makeup, and SPF becomes so toxic together that sleeping with all these things on your face is like saying welcome to skin diseases.

There are certain myths about double cleansing which can make you lazy about this technique. Never believe in that. There is no harm of double cleansing unless you have super sensitive skin or any skin disease like rosacea, etc. it is good for both dry and oily skin because it maintains your skin’s moisture without clogging pores. Here are those myths:

  • It makes your skin dehydrated.
  • It causes allergic reactions to your skin.
  • It causes acne breakouts.
  • Double cleansing is only for those people who have oily skin.
  • Double cleansing is not good for dry skin.
  • Cleansers alter your skin pH.
